This recruitment will be used to fill seasonal appointments. These appointments are not to exceed 1039 hours in a twelve month period, although positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs.

Troubleshoots, locates, and makes basic repairs of electrical wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures in office and maintenance buildings and associated electrical systems. Uses hand tools and test equipment such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, test lamps, and ammeters. Performs basic carpentry work associated with maintaining operations buildings and public access areas and with construction of simple structures. Maintains, repairs, modifies for accessibility, and occasionally constructs structures of concrete, block, and occasionally brick or other related materials. Uses basic techniques and procedures in placing concrete and laying block accurately in construction or repair of partitions, walls, and walkways. Will work with applying, removing, and patching/repairing stucco on exterior walls. Assists in installing, modifying, and repairing existing and new utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water and oil distribution systems, water closets, tubs, and showers. Removes, cleans, and replaces joints and fixtures. Locates leaks and determines cause and extent of damage. Removes and replaces broken or warped roof shingles. Patches leaking flashing. Repairs or replaces broken downspouts and gutters on dwelling, garage, shop building, and gate house. Brushes, rolls, and spray paints wood, concrete, and metal surfaces. Uses scrapers, wire brushes, putty knives, sandpaper, and chemicals to prepare surfaces for painting. May paint exterior or interior surfaces. Operates equipment such as but not limited to: sedans, SUVs, and pick-up trucks. Performs grounds maintenance duties. Performs custodial duties including cleaning restrooms, washing/waxing floors, emptying trash, vacuuming carpet, and shop housekeeping.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS ANDWORK ENVIRONMENT: Exerts heavy physical effort in tasks such as frequent lifting and moving objects weighing 40 pounds. Extensive walking, bending, and lifting above the head are required. Required to work outside in all kinds of weather conditions and inside work involves exposure to dust, drafts, and fumes. Must wear protective equipment. Motor vehicles are driven in all types of traffic and weather on public roads.
AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: Aztec Ruins National Monument is located in the San Juan Basin along the Animas River in northwest New Mexico, in Aztec, New Mexico. Aztec has a population of approximately 8,500. Weather is generally temperate, although extreme temperatures do occur at times. Housing is plentiful with prices for buying or renting reasonable for the area. No Government quarters are available. Retail service, professional and medical services, churches, hospitals, and educational facilities are available, including a multitude of recreational facilities. The cities of Durango, CO and Farmington, NM are nearby providing various other services. Year-round recreational opportunities are abundant within a short commuting distance.

QUALIFICATIONS : Applicants must be physically fit and must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the elements listed in Section 25 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. A specific length of time and experience is not required; however you must be able to demonstrate the rough experience shown in your written application, that you possess sufficient knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision. Examples of experience for this position include: carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, grounds maintenance, roofing, stucco, motor vehicle operation, custodial, and masonry. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. You must meet level 2 on the screen out factor/element and an average of level 2 on all factors/elements in the occupational assessment questionnaire.
EDUCATION: Education is generally not qualifying for this type of position, however, education or training will be considered if it directly relates to the position. REQUIREMENTS
1.National Park Service (NPS) uniformed position. Employee will be required to wear a uniform and to comply with NPS uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided to defray the cost of the uniform.
2. Applicants must possess a valid state driver''s license. This position requires that you operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. A valid State driver''s license is required. As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit a completed GSA Form 3607, Motor Vehicle Operator''s License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver''s licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. If you are tentatively selected for employment in this position, you will be required to complete GSA Form 3607 and submit the above State issued documents. Your employment, after your tentative selection, will be contingent upon receipt of these documents in a timely manner and that those documents establish, to the satisfaction of the selecting official, that you possess a valid driver''s license.
