We are looking for candidates with a strong drive and dedication to serve the citizens of San Juan County.
Current San Juan County residents preferred.
We are looking for a self-motivated hard worker who desires to know their craft and can work as a member of the Sheriff's Office Detective Division team.
We will train the right candidate in the field of crime scene investigations.
The right candidate must have some other experiences that will assist them in being successful in this position such as previous crime scene work, previous work in a law enforcement field, or Office of Medical Investigations, experience in photography, etc.
This position will require up to 14 weeks of out-of-state training within the first year of employment.
The work schedule is four ten-hour workdays, with occasional holidays and weekends.
This position will require you to be on call and able to respond to a crime scene regardless of weather conditions.
You will be exposed to the aftermath of violent crime scenes including death scenes, burglaries, traffic crashes, property crimes, etc.
Through your training, you will be required to respond to crime and significant crash scenes, evaluate the scene, and conduct searches for evidence utilizing disciplines related to crime scene investigation.
You will measure and photograph scenes, evidence, etc.
You will document, collect, package, preserve, and process evidence.
You will utilize alternate light sources, chemical and physical processes, scientific methods, and equipment for the detection and collection of evidence.
You will process evidence and crime scenes for latent fingerprints, submit reports and/or documentation of work completed, and provide occasional courtroom testimony.
Education and Experience Requirements Associate's degree in Police Science, Forensics or a related field and four (4) years relevant work experience with crime scene investigations; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
Bachelor's degree, preferred.
Demonstrated photography experience; demonstrated experience with identification and collection techniques used in law enforcement.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential data, evidence, and/or material; ensures the quality and integrity of all evidence and/or material handled.
Valid State of New Mexico driver's license or able to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to inclement weather, and varying temperatures; may be subject to extended periods of driving when traveling to other crime labs or the Office of the Medical Investigator; may be subject to dangerous machinery or physical harm such as vehicles, gunshots, and physical attacks.
May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, drugs, infectious and communicable diseases; may be required to physically restrain persons.
Work schedule for this position may include working on religious holidays.
Utilize, process, and navigate the County's electronic ERP system as necessary and appropriate based on the needs and requirements of this position.
Essential Job Functions (partial list) Responds to crime scenes to identify, collect, and preserve evidence in support of law enforcement activities.
Examines, tests, documents, and processes evidence in accordance with the most current, advanced, and discipline accepted methods.
Prepares reports documenting different aspects of the investigation; documents the crime scene, evidence collection and interpretation and statements; prepares or assists in preparing written affidavits for search and arrest warrants.
Photographs all types of crime and accident scenes to record the appearance of evidence using highly-skilled photographic and evidence-gathering techniques.
Documents and measures crime scenes through sketches, diagraming, photography, and computer aided electronic capturing and surveying equipment (Total Station).
Secures physical evidence including; blood, body fluids, hair, fibers, and firearms for laboratory testing and use as evidence in criminal prosecution; searches for and develops latent prints at crime scenes.
Photographs and fingerprints suspects, victims (including deceased individuals) and witnesses; produces castings of footprints, tire tracks, and other impressions; completes presumptive field drug tests.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
